MFV James Barrie was a 66T British Trawler  built by Lewis John & Son in Aberdeen and named FV Benella. From 1949 to 1951 she was owned by Active Fishing limited, Fleetwood and during 1951 was owned by Marr J & Son Ltd.
She lost 18 year old assistant cook, Michael Bennett, overboard in 1968.
The James Barrie ran aground south of the Orkneys at “Louther Rock” on Pentland skerries and was holed forcing the crew to abandon ship.  On 29th March she was under tow  to Scapa Flow  by the lifeboat Grace Paterson  when she took on too much water and sank.

The James Barrie lies upright on a stoney seabed at 45M and is very much intact making it a popular dive site.
