SS Caporal Peugot

N50 21.896 W003 34.547

She would have looked a bit like the trrawler shown above
How she looked in the 50's when abandoned in Noss

The Caporal Peugot was a French wooden trawler that had bee requisitioned by the French government and used as a minesweeper. is the French Steamer . She was evacuating French and British troops from Dunkirk when she broke down and was towed to Plymouth. She was moved to the Phillips yard at Noss on dart in order to have a new engine fitted but the owners decided not to go ahead so she was eventually abandoned at Noss to help retain the mud.

The ship was involved in the evacuation of Dunkirk in June 1940
The ship was probably named after Jules-André Peugeot (French: [pøʒo]; June 11, 1893 – August 2, 1914) was the first French soldier to die in World War I. He died one day before war was formally declared on France by Germany, in the same skirmish in which Albert Mayer became the first German soldier to die.
